Proof-of-Citizenship Voting Proposal Falls Short on Valid Signatures

LANSING — A ballot proposal that would require citizenship verification for all Michigan voters may not reach the ballot, despite organizers turning in thousands more signatures than the minimum.
A Board of State Canvassers staff report found that a sample of the petition fell short on valid signatures, estimating the full petition contains 434,423 valid signatures — nearly 12,000 fewer than required for certification.
