Tigers Drop Another Late Lead, Turn to Royals Series in Wild Card Chase

Reported by Sports Illustrated and the Detroit Free Press.

PITTSBURGH — The Detroit Tigers took a lead into the ninth inning at PNC Park and lost it again, as closer Kenley Jansen gave up two solo home runs in a loss that dropped the club to 61-66.

The defeat cost Detroit a shot at a franchise-record eighth road series victory. Probable starters are set for a home series against the Kansas City Royals.

The rookies

Even in a bumpy month, Detroit's young core has been the story: rookies including Kevin McGonigle and Max Clark have carried stretches of the season while the Tigers hover around a wild card spot.
